Troubleshooting
Before You Begin
Many issues can be resolved by checking these basic requirements:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
- Check battery level - Replace the battery if it’s low
- Update compatible apps to the latest version
- Restart both the app and the SB Mote device
Connection Issues
SB Mote Won’t Connect
If your SB Mote isn’t showing up or won’t connect:
Check the Basics:
- Is your SB Mote turned on? Hold the button for 3 seconds until the LED blinks
- Is Bluetooth enabled on your phone?
- Is the battery installed correctly? Positive side should face up
- Is your phone within range? Maximum range is 10 meters (33 feet)
iOS Issues:
- Allow Bluetooth access: Go to Settings → [App Name] → Enable Bluetooth
- Try restarting your phone if the device still doesn’t appear
Android Issues:
- Enable Location Services: Android requires location services for Bluetooth to work
- Allow location access: Go to Settings → [App Name] → Permissions → Enable Location
- Try airplane mode: Turn on airplane mode for 5 seconds, then turn it off to reset Bluetooth
- Restart your phone: Android Bluetooth can be unstable; a restart often fixes connection issues
SB Mote Keeps Disconnecting
Automatic disconnections can occur due to:
- Power saving features - Disable battery optimization for the app
- Distance issues - Ensure you’re within 10 meters of your device
- Interference - Move away from other Bluetooth devices
- Low battery - Replace the CR1632 battery
Solutions:
- Check your phone’s battery optimization settings and exclude the app
- Stay within the recommended range
- Turn off other Bluetooth devices nearby
- Replace the battery if it’s been in use for several months
Button Response Issues
Button Press Isn’t Triggering Actions
- Verify app configuration - Check that you’ve properly set up the action in the app
- Test default function - Press the button to see if it increases volume (default behavior)
- Restart the app - Close and reopen the compatible app
- Check app permissions - Ensure the app has necessary Bluetooth permissions
- Re-pair the device - Forget the device in Bluetooth settings and pair again
Note: By default, pressing the SB Mote button triggers a Volume Up action on your phone. Compatible apps can intercept this signal and perform custom actions instead. If the button increases volume, the device is working correctly.
Delayed Button Response
- Low battery - Replace the CR1632 battery
- Interference - Move away from other electronic devices
- App overload - Close other apps to free up system resources
- Phone performance - Restart your phone if it’s running slowly
Power Management Issues
SB Mote Won’t Turn On
- Check if the battery tab has been removed
- Replace the battery with a fresh CR1632
- Ensure the battery is inserted correctly (positive side up)
- Try a different battery to rule out battery issues
Unexpected Shutdowns
The SB Mote has automatic power management:
- Shuts down after 5 minutes if not paired
- Enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity
- Shuts down after 20 minutes total inactivity
If shutting down too frequently:
- Check battery level
- Ensure you’re actively using the device during performances
- The device can be quickly reactivated by pressing the button
LED Indicator Issues
LED Behavior Guide
- No light: Device is off or battery is depleted
- Rapid blinking: Low battery or connection error
- Steady light: Connected but possibly experiencing interference
- Flashing 3 times: Device is shutting down
App-Specific Issues
Multiple App Conflicts
Only one app can listen for SB Mote signals at a time:
- Close other apps that might be using Bluetooth
- Switch between apps as needed for different routines
- Some apps may need to be force-closed to release Bluetooth connections
App Not Responding
- Update the app to the latest version
- Check app permissions for Bluetooth access
- Restart the app completely
- Reinstall the app if issues persist
Battery Issues
Battery Replacement Problems
If having trouble with battery replacement:
- Use a small tool like a coin or plastic prying tool
- Ensure the battery compartment is clean
- Make sure the battery is seated properly
- Snap the case closed securely
Short Battery Life
Expected battery life is 6-12 months with regular use. If draining faster:
- Check for apps constantly polling the device
- Ensure the device isn’t stuck in a connection loop
- Replace with a high-quality CR1632 battery
