How Teleport Works

Teleport is a card-sized 4-color e-ink display that looks exactly like paper when placed in its holder. It works with apps and remote controls to display playing cards, handwritten messages, predictions, and images:

The free PeekSmith app gives you access to card reveals, handwriting features (TrueWrite), custom images, and more. Images are transferred via Bluetooth (2-3 seconds) and displayed on the e-ink screen (22 seconds refresh) โ€” updates complete in less than 30 seconds.

Use your Atom 2 remote to switch between predefined images stored in Teleportโ€™s flash memory or generate images directly on Atom. Perfect for performances where you want phone-free operation.

Quick Start

Get your Teleport ready for performance in just a few minutes.

1. Charge Your Device

Before first use: Charge your Teleport for at least 1-2 hours before using it for the first time.

Place Teleport on the included Qi wireless charger. The marking on the back of Teleport should align with the center of the charger.

Charging indicator: The red LED turns on while charging and automatically turns off when fully charged.

Charging time: 1-2 hours for full charge.
Battery care: You can safely leave it charging overnight without damage. Use any 5V charger.

2. Turn It On

Press and hold the button on the back for about 1 second. The screen will change, indicating the device is ready to use.

Button behavior:

  • Turn on (when off): Press and hold for ~1 second until screen changes
  • Reset (when on): Quick press resets the device
  • Turn off (when on): Press and hold until the screen starts updating and โ€œPower Offโ€ appears

Standby mode: When you turn it off, Teleport displays a โ€œPower Offโ€ message. However, we recommend keeping it on โ€” the battery lasts over a month in standby mode, so your device is always ready for performance.

3. Download the PeekSmith App

Download the PeekSmith app to unlock Teleportโ€™s full potential. The app is free and works on both iOS and Android.

Important: Sign in with your Apple ID (iOS) or Google account (Android) โ€” this is required for most features to work.

4. Update the App

After signing in, the app will prompt you to update if a new version is available. Tap to update to get the latest features.

5. Connect and Update Firmware

  1. Connect to your Teleport via Bluetooth.
  2. Update to the latest firmware when prompted.

Why update? Firmware updates unlock new features, improve performance, and add support for new image types and effects.

6. Send Your First Reveal

Once everything is updated:

  1. Open a feature screen in the app (like Poker Card Image).
  2. Select a card or create a message.
  3. Watch it appear on your Teleport in less than 30 seconds.

Before You Perform

Make sure your Teleport is:

  • Fully charged โ€” Battery lasts over 1 month in standby, 1,000+ reveals per charge.
  • Turned on โ€” The screen should show your last image or the โ€œPower Offโ€ message if turned off.
  • Connected โ€” Either to your app or Atom Remote.
  • Loaded with images โ€” Teleport comes with pre-loaded images in flash memory for instant reveals, or send new images via Bluetooth (updates complete in less than 30 seconds: 2-3 seconds transfer + 22 seconds display refresh).

Pro tip: Use Teleportโ€™s pre-loaded flash images for instant switching. Use the app or Atom Remote to quickly cycle through them during performance.

Charging the Device

Teleport uses wireless Qi charging for convenience.

How to charge:

  1. Place Teleport on the Qi wireless charger (align the marking on the back with the chargerโ€™s center).
  2. Plug the USB-A cable into any USB port โ€” computer, wall charger, or power bank.
  3. The red LED turns on during charging and turns off when complete.

Important notes:

  • โœ… Charging time: 1-2 hours to full charge.
  • โœ… Safe overnight charging: Wonโ€™t damage the battery.
  • โœ… Charger compatibility: Any 5V charger works, including high-power (100W) laptop chargers.
  • โŒ Avoid complete discharge: Charge at least once a month, even when not in use, to prevent battery damage (Li-Ion battery care).

Turning Off Your Device

To turn off: Press and hold the button on the back until the screen starts updating. When โ€œPower Offโ€ appears, you can release the button.

To reset (when on): A quick press will reset the device without turning it off.

Note: We donโ€™t recommend turning Teleport off. With over a month of standby battery life, keeping it on ensures itโ€™s always ready for your next performance.

Common Questions

The app doesnโ€™t see my Teleport

Check these things:

  1. Is Teleport turned on? The screen should display content or โ€œPower Off.โ€
  2. Is Bluetooth enabled on your phone?
  3. Is Teleport already connected to another app? It can only connect to one app at a time.
  4. Is the battery charged?

Can I use my phone while the app is running?

Yes. The PeekSmith app runs in the background and stays connected to Teleport even when you lock your phone or switch to other apps.

How long does it take to update the screen?

Updates complete in less than 30 seconds total:

Image transfer via Bluetooth: 2-3 seconds
Screen refresh (e-ink): ~22 seconds
Total time: Less than 30 seconds

The 22-second refresh is the physical refresh time of the color e-ink technology, not related to Bluetooth speed.

Pro tip: Use Teleportโ€™s flash storage with pre-loaded images for instant switching using the Atom Remote or app.

What is TrueWrite?

TrueWrite is our neural handwriting engine that makes digital text look genuinely handwritten. It includes three free styles with Teleport: Marker, Post-it, and Chalk.

Unlike fonts that repeat the same letters, TrueWrite creates unique variations for every character โ€” just like real handwriting.

Keep Your Device Updated

New features and improvements are added regularly through firmware updates.

Update the app: The app will prompt you when updates are available.

Update firmware: Connect to Teleport via the PeekSmith app, and it will notify you if firmware updates are available.
