Spirit Plain
100% normal A4 blackboard with no electronics. Matches Spirit Echo and Spirit Pad perfectly for switches, handouts, and clean endings.
What Spirit Plain Does
Clean endings — Hand out for examination. It’s just a blackboard.
Seamless switches — Swap for Spirit Echo or Spirit Pad without detection.
One-ahead work — Use as normal slate in multi-phase routines.
Justification — Prove “it’s just a blackboard” at any point in your routine.
Why You Need Spirit Plain
The full Spirit miracle requires ending clean:
- Spectator writes on Spirit Pad
- Their writing appears on Spirit Echo
- You trace it with real chalk
- Wipe the electronic image
- Switch to Spirit Plain
- Hand out the real chalk drawing — 100% examinable
Without Spirit Plain, you can’t complete the miracle.
Common Uses
Switch After Reveal
Perfect for routines where you need to hand out the slate after the reveal:
- Perform routine with Spirit Echo or Spirit Pad
- Place gimmicked slate on table / in bag / behind something
- Pick up Spirit Plain (positioned beforehand)
- Hand to spectator for examination
- They see only a normal blackboard with real chalk
Clean Ending
End your routine with an ungimmicked prop:
- Complete your routine with Echo/Pad
- Natural switch to Spirit Plain
- Leave it with spectator as a souvenir or for inspection
- Walk away clean — no electronics to discover
One-Ahead Routines
Use Spirit Plain as your “normal” slate:
- Show Spirit Plain at the start (proves it’s just a blackboard)
- Switch to Spirit Echo/Pad during routine
- Perform reveals / predictions
- Switch back to Spirit Plain for examination
Justification
Build in natural moments to prove the slate is ungimmicked:
- Start routine with Spirit Plain on table
- Spectator sees “just a blackboard”
- Switch to gimmicked board during performance
- End with Spirit Plain for clean finish
Matching Spirit Plain to Echo/Pad
Spirit Plain is designed to match Spirit Echo and Spirit Pad perfectly:
Visual match:
- Same A4 size (12 × 8.2 × 0.7 inches)
- Same blackboard surface
- Same chalk holder design
- Same weight and feel
Performance match:
- Keep all three slates equally clean (or equally used)
- Use similar chalk marks on all boards
- Match handling between gimmicked and ungimmicked
Pro tip: Intentionally add similar wear/chalk smudges to all three boards so they look like they’ve been used the same amount.

Performance Tips
Practice switches — Rehearse swapping slates until it’s natural and invisible.
Keep it accessible — Position Spirit Plain where you can easily reach it during your routine.
Match the handling — Treat Spirit Plain exactly the same way you handle Spirit Echo/Pad.
Match the wear — Keep all three slates equally clean (or equally used) so they look identical.
Natural motivation — Build switches into natural moments (putting down the slate, stepping away, etc.).
Sight lines — Position switches so spectators can’t see the swap.
Why Spirit Combo is Recommended
Most performers buy Spirit Combo (Echo + Pad + Plain) because:
- The full “write → reveal → chalk → end clean” miracle requires all three
- Early testers said the Combo is “the only version I’d perform on stage”
- You need Spirit Plain to complete the routine and hand out the slate
- Without Plain, you’re stuck with an electronic board you can’t fully examine
If you buy Spirit Echo or Spirit Pad individually, you’ll likely need Spirit Plain later for clean endings.
Common Questions
Can I use normal chalk?
Yes. Spirit Plain uses a normal chalk holder. Just insert regular chalk.
Is Spirit Plain exactly the same size as Echo/Pad?
Yes. Identical dimensions and weight.
Can spectators tell the difference?
No — if you match the wear and chalk marks, they’re indistinguishable.
Do I really need Spirit Plain?
If you want to end clean and hand out the slate, yes. The full Spirit miracle requires all three boards.
Can I make my own ungimmicked board?
Technically yes, but it won’t match perfectly. Spirit Plain is designed to be identical to Echo/Pad.
