FAQ
General
What makes Teleport unique?
Teleport is the first color e-ink reveal device designed specifically for magicians. Unlike screens with backlights, Teleport’s 4-color e-ink display looks exactly like paper when placed in its holder.
Key advantages:
- Paper-like appearance — No backlight, completely natural look.
- 4 colors — Display playing cards, handwritten text, and images in black, white, red, and yellow.
- Long battery life — Over 1 month standby, 1,000+ reveals per charge.
- Card-sized — Fits perfectly in wallets and neck badge holders.
- Wireless charging — Convenient Qi charging.
How much does Teleport cost?
Teleport is $397-$497. For shipping, VAT, and customs information, see our shipping page.
How do I order?
Visit the Teleport product page to order.
What is the trick?
Teleport is not a magic trick — it’s a versatile tool that enhances your performances. Like any prop in magic, its effectiveness depends on how creatively you incorporate it into your routines.
You can use Teleport for:
- Card reveals — Display any playing card prediction.
- Handwritten predictions — Use TrueWrite for authentic-looking handwriting.
- Color predictions — Show images, drawings, or text.
- Teleportation effects — Make a selected card appear in the holder.
The device’s ability to display different types of content opens up many creative possibilities for both close-up and stage performances.
Does Teleport look suspicious?
On its own, it might stand out. But once placed in its holder, it blends in seamlessly — it looks just like printed paper with text and graphics.
The 4-color e-ink display has no backlight and appears completely natural under any lighting conditions.
Using Teleport
What apps work with Teleport?
Direct compatibility (works without additional setup):
- PeekSmith App — Full feature access, card reveals, TrueWrite handwriting, custom images.
- MysterSmith App — Additional features and integrations.
- Atom Remote — Phone-free operation with predefined images.
Via impression pads (indirect):
- Teleport can display content captured by impression pads when used with the PeekSmith app, but doesn’t connect directly to impression pads.
For a complete list of compatible devices and apps, see our PeekSmith app documentation.
Can I use my phone while the app is running?
Yes. The PeekSmith app runs in the background and stays connected to Teleport even when you lock your phone or switch to other apps.
Can I use Teleport without a phone?
Yes, with an Atom Remote. You can use the pre-loaded images in Teleport’s flash memory and switch between them using the Atom 2 remote, or use Atom to generate images directly — no phone needed during performance.
For details, see Atom remote features.
How long does it take to update the screen?
Updates complete in less than 30 seconds total:
Image transfer via Bluetooth: 2-3 seconds
Screen refresh (e-ink): ~22 seconds
Total time: Less than 30 seconds
Why 22 seconds? Color e-ink technology requires multiple refresh cycles to display all colors accurately. This is significantly faster than older color e-ink displays (which took 30+ seconds).
What is TrueWrite and why is it special?
TrueWrite is our neural handwriting engine that makes digital text look genuinely handwritten. Unlike fonts that repeat the same letter shapes, TrueWrite creates unique variations for every character — just like real handwriting.
Included free with Teleport:
- Marker — Bold handwriting style
- Post-it — Casual note style
- Chalk — Chalkboard writing style
This means your reveals can look like handwritten notes, sticky notes, or chalkboard writing — perfect for mentalism and predictions that need to feel authentic.
Can I display custom images?
Yes! The PeekSmith app allows you to upload and display custom images on Teleport. You can create your own predictions, logos, drawings, or any visual content.
Image requirements:
- Resolution: 240 × 416 pixels
- Colors: Black, white, red, yellow (4-color e-ink)
- Format: Standard image files (JPG, PNG)
The app will convert your images to the 4-color format automatically.
How many images can I store in Teleport?
Teleport comes with pre-loaded images in flash storage. The exact number depends on the firmware version and image types included.
Benefits of flash storage:
- Instant switching between stored images (no 22-second refresh when switching via Atom Remote)
- No phone needed during performance
- Images already optimized for the 4-color display
Can multiple apps connect to Teleport at the same time?
No. Only one app or device can connect at a time. If something is already connected, other apps won’t see Teleport until you disconnect.
Does Teleport work offline?
Without a phone: Yes. Use Atom Remote to control Teleport with predefined images stored in flash memory.
Without internet: Yes. Teleport doesn’t require internet to function. All features work offline except those that specifically need online content (like fetching images from web sources).
Display & Performance
What are the dimensions?
Device: 57 × 100 × 4 mm (card-sized)
Neck badge holder: 125 × 75 × 6 mm
Screen: 45 × 80 mm
For full specifications, see our Specifications page.
What colors can the display show?
4 colors: Black, White, Red, and Yellow (BWRY e-ink).
This allows you to display:
- Full-color playing cards (red and black suits)
- Handwritten text with color highlights
- Custom images and predictions
- Color-coded information
What’s the screen resolution?
240 × 416 pixels at 133 dpi — sufficient detail for playing cards, text, and images while maintaining the paper-like e-ink appearance.
Is Teleport only for poker cards?
No! Teleport is powered by the PeekSmith app and supports:
- Poker cards — Any standard playing card
- Signed cards — Overlay handwriting from impression pads onto card images
- Handwritten text — TrueWrite handwriting engine
- Custom images — Photos, drawings, predictions, logos
- ESP symbols — Circles, squares, stars, waves, crosses
- Color predictions — Any visual content in 4 colors
Can it display signed cards?
Yes. You can use impression pads with the PeekSmith app to capture handwriting, then overlay it onto a card image displayed on Teleport.
How it works:
- Spectator signs a card (captured by impression pad)
- PeekSmith app receives the handwriting
- App overlays the signature onto the card image
- Send to Teleport for display
This creates the perfect illusion of a signed card appearing in the holder.
For more details, see impression pad features.
Why does the holder cover the sides of the cards?
The window size is determined by the dimensions of the e-ink display. We carefully selected the best color e-ink display available, and the window had to match its size.
Workarounds to see pip numbers:
- Shift the image slightly left or right (available in app settings)
- Use a photo of a bridge-sized card for better fit
- Reduce the image size to reveal more of the card edges
Is Teleport waterproof?
No. Teleport has no water resistance. Keep it dry.
Can I use Teleport outdoors?
Yes, but with limitations. E-ink displays work best in indirect light and are not visible in direct bright sunlight.
Ideal conditions:
- Indoor performances
- Shade or overcast outdoor conditions
- Evening/night performances
- Indirect lighting
Not recommended:
- Direct sunlight (summer beaches, bright sunny days)
- Very bright outdoor environments
Tip: Position yourself and your audience to avoid direct sunlight on the device.
Battery & Charging
What kind of battery does Teleport use?
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery, designed for long-lasting performance.
What does “incredibly long battery life” mean?
Standby mode: Over 1 month per charge
Active use: 1,000+ screen updates per charge
E-ink displays only use power when changing the image, not when displaying static content. This means Teleport can show a prediction indefinitely without draining the battery.
For detailed battery information, see our Battery Life guide.
How do I charge it?
Teleport uses wireless Qi charging:
- Place Teleport on the Qi wireless charger (align the marking on the back with the charger’s center).
- Plug the USB-A cable into any USB port — computer, wall charger, or power bank.
- The red LED turns on during charging and turns off when complete.
Charging time: 1-2 hours for a full charge.
For more details, see Charging the Device.
Can I charge it overnight?
Yes. You can safely leave Teleport on the charger overnight without causing damage. The device has built-in charging protection.
What chargers are compatible?
Any 5V USB charger works, including:
- Computer USB ports
- Wall chargers (even high-power 100W laptop chargers)
- Power banks
- Car USB adapters
Note: Some high-power fast chargers designed for phones may not detect Teleport’s low power draw. If charging doesn’t work, try a basic USB charger or computer port.
Technical Details
What’s in the box?
You’ll receive:
- Teleport device
- Qi wireless charger (with USB-A to USB-C cable)
- Neck badge holder (designed to fit Teleport perfectly)
Is it a standalone effect?
Teleport works with the PeekSmith app, MysterSmith app, or Atom Remote. While it’s not a standalone effect, it integrates smoothly with these tools to enhance your magic.
We’re also open to new integrations and eager to collaborate with magic app developers to expand its possibilities!
What’s the Bluetooth range?
Typical Bluetooth range with minimal obstacles. The exact range depends on your environment and phone.
Image transfer: 2-3 seconds via Bluetooth
Flash storage: Instant switching for predefined images (no Bluetooth needed during performance)
Does Teleport have buttons?
Yes, one button on the back:
- Turn on (when off): Press and hold for ~1 second until screen changes
- Reset (when on): Quick press resets the device
- Turn off (when on): Press and hold until screen starts updating and “Power Off” appears
The button is minimal and designed to be inconspicuous.
Can I attach magnets to Teleport?
Yes, but be cautious. Some performers use small magnets for hidden mounting, but:
- Magnets may interfere with Bluetooth signal
- Strong magnets could potentially damage the device
We don’t officially recommend or support magnetic mounting, but some users have done it successfully with weak magnets.
How do I update the firmware?
- Download the PeekSmith app and sign in.
- Connect to Teleport via Bluetooth.
- The app will notify you when firmware updates are available.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update.
Why update? Firmware updates add new features, improve performance, and fix bugs.
Can I replace the battery?
We don’t recommend or support battery replacement. Opening the device requires specialized tools and voids the warranty.
Better approach: Maintain your battery properly and it will last for years:
- Charge at least once a month, even when not in use
- Never let it drain completely — this damages Li-Ion batteries
- Follow our Battery Life guide
