Battery Life

Teleport has exceptional battery life thanks to e-ink technology, which only uses power when updating the display:

  • Over 1 month in standby mode (Bluetooth on)
  • 1,000+ screen updates per charge in active use

What Affects Battery Life

E-ink displays only consume power during screen updates. Once an image is displayed, it remains visible indefinitely without using any battery power.

Key factors:

  1. Number of updates โ€” Each screen refresh uses power. Using pre-loaded images from flash memory and switching between them uses less power than sending new images.
  2. Bluetooth usage โ€” Keeping Bluetooth on uses minimal power. Transferring new images via Bluetooth uses more power than switching between pre-loaded images.
  3. Firmware version โ€” Always use the latest firmware for optimal battery performance.

Maximizing Battery Life

Use Pre-loaded Images

Teleport comes with pre-loaded images in flash memory. Switching between these images (via Atom Remote or app) is instant and uses minimal battery compared to sending new images via Bluetooth.

Benefits:

  • Instant image switching
  • No 22-second refresh delay
  • Significantly less battery drain
  • Phone-free operation with Atom Remote

Plan Your Updates

Since e-ink displays hold images without power, you can:

  • Display a prediction at the start of your routine and leave it visible throughout
  • Switch between pre-loaded images as needed
  • Minimize unnecessary screen updates by sending new images only when required

Keep Firmware Updated

Battery optimizations are added regularly through firmware updates. Connect to the PeekSmith app to check for updates.

Charging Tips

  • Charge fully โ€” Leave Teleport on the charger for 1-2 hours for a complete charge.
  • Charge after performances โ€” Make it a habit so your device is always ready.
  • Charge regularly โ€” Even when not using, charge at least once a month to keep the battery healthy.
  • Never let it drain completely โ€” This damages Li-Ion batteries and shortens their lifespan.
  • Safe overnight charging โ€” You can leave Teleport on the charger overnight without damage.

Wireless Qi Charging

Teleport uses convenient wireless Qi charging:

  1. Place Teleport on the Qi wireless charger (align the marking on the back with the chargerโ€™s center).
  2. Plug the USB-A cable into any USB port.
  3. The red LED turns on during charging and turns off when complete.

Charging time: 1-2 hours for a full charge.

Compatible chargers: Any 5V USB charger works, including high-power laptop chargers (100W+).

For detailed charging instructions, see Charging the Device.

Battery Care

With proper care, your Teleportโ€™s battery will last for years:

Do this:

  • โœ… Charge at least once a month, even when not in use
  • โœ… Avoid complete discharge โ€” charge before the battery is fully depleted
  • โœ… Use any 5V USB charger (computer, wall adapter, power bank)
  • โœ… Leave on charger overnight if needed โ€” wonโ€™t damage the battery
  • โœ… Keep firmware updated for battery optimizations

Avoid this:

  • โŒ Letting battery drain completely โ€” damages Li-Ion batteries
  • โŒ Storing for long periods without charging
  • โŒ Using incompatible chargers (stick to 5V USB)

Battery Lifespan

The Li-Ion battery in Teleport is designed for long-term use:

Expected performance:

  • Over 1 month standby time per charge
  • 1,000+ screen updates per charge
  • Years of reliable use with proper care

Battery replacement: Not supported. Follow the care guidelines above to maximize battery life. Opening the device voids the warranty and requires specialized tools.

Understanding E-Ink Battery Usage

E-ink technology is fundamentally different from LCD or OLED screens:

Traditional screens (LCD/OLED):

  • Constantly use power to display images
  • Battery drains even when showing static content
  • Brightness significantly affects battery life

E-ink screens (Teleport):

  • Only use power during screen updates
  • Static images remain visible indefinitely without power
  • Once updated, no power needed to maintain the display

This is why Teleport can display a prediction for hours or even days on a single charge โ€” the image remains visible without consuming any battery power.

Real-World Usage

Typical performance scenario:

  • Pre-show: Use pre-loaded images in flash memory (minimal battery use)
  • During show: Switch between images or send new content as needed
  • Post-show: Device remains on standby until next use

With this usage pattern, Teleport can easily last weeks or even a month between charges.

Heavy usage scenario:

  • Constantly sending new images via Bluetooth
  • 1,000+ updates possible per charge
  • Still significantly better than traditional display devices

Troubleshooting Battery Issues

Battery draining faster than expected

  1. Update firmware โ€” Battery optimizations are added regularly
  2. Use pre-loaded images โ€” Switching between flash images uses less power than Bluetooth transfers
  3. Check for connection issues โ€” Constant reconnection attempts drain battery
  4. Ensure complete charge โ€” Leave on charger for full 1-2 hours

Battery indicator inaccurate

Battery level estimation improves over time as the device calibrates. If you just received your Teleport, the battery indicator may become more accurate after a few charge cycles.
