Using Atom 2

Can I use my phone while Atom is running?

Yes. Atom works in three modes:

1. Standalone mini-apps: Run completely independent of your phone. No phone needed at all.

2. Controlling other devices: Atom connects directly to PeekSmith, SB Watch, Quantum, etc., without needing your phone.

3. Via PeekSmith app: The app can run in the background and stay connected even when you lock your phone or switch to other apps.

Do I have to learn programming to use Atom?

No. Atom is ready to use out of the box:

Option 1: Use as-is

  • Dozens of preloaded MagiScript mini-apps included.
  • Compatible with many apps directly (no coding needed).
  • Works as Bluetooth keyboard for entering information.

Option 2: Customize existing apps

  • Review and modify example code without fully understanding it.
  • Simple changes like changing numbers, text, or timing.

Option 3: Learn MagiScript

  • MagiScript is designed to be easy to learn.
  • Active community shares examples and helps beginners.
  • We provide tutorials and documentation.

Itโ€™s like building with LEGO โ€” you can follow instructions or create your own designs.

Does Atom work with third-party apps?

Yes! Atom works with many magic apps in three ways:

1. Direct integration: Apps with built-in Atom support.

2. Via PeekSmith app bridge: Send data to web APIs that other apps can access.

3. As Bluetooth keyboard: Type information into any app that accepts keyboard input.

For a complete list, see our Compatibility page.

Can I control other devices with Atom?

Yes. Atom can directly control:

  • PeekSmith 3 โ€” Send text, cards, dice values, and more.
  • Bond โ€” Same capabilities as PeekSmith 3.
  • SB Watch / SB Watch 2 โ€” Set times for predictions.
  • Quantum โ€” Toggle force mode, send data.
  • Teleport โ€” Display predictions on e-ink screen.
  • Cosmos โ€” Print physical predictions.

For details, see Built-in Mini-Apps.

Atomโ€™s compact size (32 ร— 65 ร— 13 mm) and silent buttons give you many options:

Palming: You can palm Atom in your hand.

Pocket concealment:

  • Breast pocket, inside jacket pocket, or pants pocket.
  • Press buttons through trouser material without removing Atom.
  • Add/remove items from pocket while pressing buttons.

Other methods:

Atom hiding methods

How do I launch mini-apps?

When you turn on Atom, it enters Launch Mode (cyan LED for 5 seconds):

  1. Turn on Atom โ€” Press and hold power button until vibration.
  2. Launch Mode activates โ€” Cyan LED appears for 5 seconds.
  3. Press button #1-#11 โ€” Launches that mini-app.
  4. Wait โ€” If you donโ€™t press anything, Atom stays ready as a remote.

Return to Launch Mode anytime: Double-click the power button.

Set auto-launch: Press and hold power button, then press the mini-app button you want to auto-start.

For details, see Built-in Mini-Apps.

What do the LED colors mean?

Cyan (5 seconds): Launch Mode โ€” ready to launch a mini-app.

Charging indicators:

  • Yellow pulsing: Battery drained, charging started.
  • Red pulsing: Low battery, charging.
  • Green solid: Fully charged.

Warning:

  • Yellow blinking (3 times): Battery critically low, charge immediately.

During mini-apps: LED colors vary depending on the mini-app running. Check the specific mini-app documentation.

Can multiple devices connect to Atom at the same time?

Atom can connect to multiple devices/apps simultaneously. However, it can only be paired (as a Bluetooth keyboard) to one device at a time.

If connection fails: You may need to forget/unpair Atom from your phoneโ€™s Bluetooth settings and pair again. See Troubleshooting.

How do I use Atom as a keyboard?

Launch a keyboard mini-app during Launch Mode. Several keyboard options are available:

iOS tip: When Atom is paired as a keyboard, the on-screen keyboard hides. Tap Atomโ€™s power button to toggle the virtual keyboard back on.

For details, see Bluetooth Keyboard.

Is Atom waterproof?

No. Atom has no water resistance. Keep it dry.

Can I attach magnets to Atom?

Yes. Some performers use magnets to attach Atom to metal table edges or other surfaces.

Note: Attaching to large metal objects may slightly reduce Bluetooth range.

Whatโ€™s the Bluetooth range?

Up to 10-15 meters (30-50 feet) in typical conditions. Actual range depends on environment and obstacles between devices.

Battery & Charging

What kind of battery does it have?

Rechargeable LiPo battery.

How long does the battery last?

Approximately 3 hours of continuous use with current firmware. Battery life improvements are planned for future firmware updates.

Pro tip: Turn Atom off between routines to extend battery life during performances.

For detailed battery tips, see the main page.

How do I charge it?

  1. Connect the included USB-C cable to Atom.
  2. Plug into any USB port โ€” computer, wall charger, power bank.
  3. You can use any 5V charger, even high-wattage laptop chargers (they wonโ€™t damage the device).

Charging time: ~2 hours for a full charge.

Charging indicators:

  • Yellow pulsing = Battery drained, charging started
  • Red pulsing = Low battery, charging
  • Green solid = Fully charged

Not charging? Some โ€œsmartโ€ chargers designed for fast phone charging may not detect Atomโ€™s low power draw. Try a simple USB charger or different cable.

Can I charge it while itโ€™s on?

Yes. However, it charges faster when turned off. You can turn it on briefly while charging to check battery percentage.

Note: You cannot turn Atom on while itโ€™s connected to the charger. Disconnect first, then power on.

Can I replace the battery?

We donโ€™t recommend or support battery replacement. Opening the case requires tools, soldering skills, and voids the warranty. We donโ€™t provide documentation for this procedure.

Better approach: Maintain your battery properly and it will last for years:

  • Charge every 2-3 months, even when not using.
  • Never let it drain completely โ€” this damages LiPo batteries.
  • Turn off between performances to preserve battery.

For more battery care tips, see the main page.

How do I clean and maintain Atom?

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the body with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn marks, use a slightly damp cloth (not wet).
  • Never use cleaning chemicals or alcohol.

Storage:

  • Store in a clean, protective case or box.
  • Donโ€™t keep it loose in your pocket with keys, coins, or other items that could damage it.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

Battery maintenance:

  • Charge every 2-3 months, even when not using.
  • Never let it drain completely.

Regular care:

  • Keep firmware updated for performance improvements.
  • Check charging port for lint or debris.

With proper care, your Atom will last for many years of performances.
