Hiding Methods

PeekSmithโ€™s compact size (52 ร— 17 ร— 12 mm) gives you many options, from bold table placement to complete concealment.

Bold Placement

In some special circumstances, you can place PeekSmith on the table behind an object where spectators canโ€™t see it:

Behind a card box โ€” Place it behind your deck case or other props.

Behind other objects โ€” Any item on the table can provide cover.

Important: Make sure no spectators are positioned where they could see the screen. Check your angles carefully before performing. This method works best when you have full control over seating positions and audience placement.

Card Box

This was our main design goal โ€” creating a device that fits perfectly inside a standard poker card box.

PeekSmithโ€™s dimensions (52 ร— 17 ร— 12 mm) were specifically chosen with card box concealment in mind. The 17 mm height is optimal for hiding inside a card box alongside your deck, allowing natural handling without arousing suspicion.

Why it works:

  • Completely innocent appearance โ€” a card box on the table raises no questions.
  • Easy to peek by tilting or opening the box slightly.
  • Can be left in full view throughout your performance.
  • Works with standard Bicycle, Bee, Luna, and other poker-sized card boxes.

Important: Similar devices on the market (55 ร— 18 ร— 12 mm) donโ€™t fit properly in card boxes. We designed PeekSmith 3 specifically to make this method work.

Card Box Accessories

For enhanced card box concealment, see Peek Box 3, The Peek Thief, and Card Holder โ€” dedicated accessories designed for card box hiding.

Finger Palm

PeekSmith is small enough to conceal in your hand during performance.

Why it works:

  • Complete control over when you peek.
  • No props needed โ€” just your hands.
  • Natural position during card handling and other magic.
  • Works standing, seated, or moving around.

Tips:

  • Practice holding PeekSmith naturally without tension in your hand.
  • Position the screen toward your palm for quick glances.
  • Use natural moments (pauses, misdirection) to peek.
  • Your fingers can cover the device while still allowing screen visibility.

Pocket Concealment

Your pockets provide excellent concealment with easy access.

Breast pocket (jacket/vest) โ€” The most deceptive method. Penn and Teller were fooled by a magician hiding PeekSmith 3 in a vest pocket. Upper body position makes peeking extremely natural and subtle. If you keep your card box in your breast pocket, it offers a natural reason for looking there.

Inside jacket pocket โ€” Requires opening jacket to peek. Leave jacket unbuttoned or partially open.

Shirt pocket โ€” Similar to breast pocket but less formal. Keep shirt unbuttoned if needed.

Pants pocket โ€” Lower position requires more obvious peeking motion. Best for casual performances.

Tip: Position PeekSmith screen-up in your pocket for fastest access. Practice peeking naturally without looking directly down.

Enhanced Pocket Concealment with Nest 2

For enhanced pocket concealment, see Nest 2 โ€” holds PeekSmith alongside a pen in your pocket, giving you a natural reason to look there when reaching for your pen.

Other Hiding Methods

The community has discovered many creative options:

Under table โ€” Attach to table edge with magnets.

Inside objects โ€” Card case, eraser, box, bag, etc.

Lap โ€” Easy access when seated.

Tips

  • Test your angles โ€” Always check that spectators canโ€™t see your peek from any position.
  • Practice peeking naturally โ€” The more natural your peek, the less heat on the method.
  • Match your hiding method to your routine โ€” Formal performances might use jacket pockets, casual performances might use pants pockets or table placement.
  • Keep it accessible โ€” The best hiding method is one that lets you peek quickly and naturally.
