Impression Pads

Connect PeekSmith 3 directly to impression pads to see drawings and handwriting in real-time without using your phone.

Before connecting IARVEL Pads to PeekSmith 3:

  1. Update firmware first โ€” Make sure you have PeekSmith 3 firmware v1.9.12 or later.

  2. Use exact device names โ€” In the IARVEL app, verify your pad uses the exact name:

    • IARVEL PAD (all caps)
    • PAD MINI (all caps, not โ€œiPad Miniโ€)
    • PAD Pro (exact casing)
    • PAD Pro Max (exact casing)
  3. Check for errors:

    • No typos in device name
    • No extra spaces
    • Correct capitalization (IARVEL PAD and PAD MINI must be all caps)

The most common cause is incorrect device naming in the IARVEL app.

The PeekSmith app supports additional pads beyond this list.

Connecting Impression Pads

  1. Disconnect all mobile apps - Ensure PeekSmith 3 is not connected to or paired with any smartphone applications.
  2. Make sure the impression pad is also not connected to any apps or devices.
  3. Long press the front right button on PeekSmith 3.
  4. PeekSmith 3 scans for Bluetooth devices.
  5. On the scanning screen, you will see โ€œDevicesโ€ and the count of connected devices. For a short time, the name of the connected device appears (then โ€œsearchingโ€ฆโ€). If you have no other compatible devices around and you see 1 as the device count, you likely connected to the impression pad.
  6. When connected, PeekSmith 3 displays drawings in real-time.

Configuration

Press both front buttons to enter settings. Navigate with left button, change values with right button, exit with side button.

Button assignments:

  • Side Button Press โ€” Assign actions like โ€œClear Screenโ€
  • Left Button Press โ€” Assign custom actions
  • Right Button Press โ€” Assign custom actions
  • SB Watch Crown Press โ€” Assign actions when SB Watch is paired

Display settings:

  • Drawing Boldness โ€” Normal (1-pixel, detailed) or Bold (2-pixel, simple)
  • Drawing Rotation โ€” Rotate drawing to better fit screen dimensions
  • Drawing Auto Clear โ€” Auto-clear after pause (Never, 15 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec)

Connection settings:

  • Device Reconnect โ€” 30 seconds (default) or Indefinitely (higher power consumption)

Connection Requirements

Before attempting to connect impression pads:

  • Firmware: Ensure PeekSmith 3 has the latest firmware (v1.9.12 or later for IARVEL Pads)
  • App Disconnected: Close the PeekSmith app and ensure PeekSmith 3 is not connected to any mobile applications
  • Pad Disconnected: Make sure the impression pad is not connected to any apps or devices
  • Device Naming: For IARVEL Pads, verify exact device names in the IARVEL app (IARVEL PAD, PAD MINI, PAD Pro, PAD Pro Max)
  • Distance: Keep PeekSmith 3 and impression pad within close proximity (1-2 meters)

Troubleshooting

Impression pad wonโ€™t connect:

  • Verify PeekSmith 3 is disconnected from mobile app (no app controlling the device)
  • Check that the impression pad is not paired with other devices
  • Ensure latest firmware is installed on PeekSmith 3
  • For IARVEL Pads, verify correct device naming in the IARVEL app
  • Wake up IARVEL pads by moving them (they can go to sleep)

Drawing not displaying:

  • Check connection status between devices
  • Verify pad is awake and active
  • Try reconnecting to the impression pad
